What is art?Midjourney and 2023
AI art: is it wrong to use?
The bear image at the top of this blog post, I created using Midjourney, a visual creator using artificial intelligence to generate images based on words inputted by a user. The words put into Midjourney are called prompts, and the more experience and sophisticated approach you use, the more interesting the results. For the image above I put in something along the lines of “cosmic polar bears at night in a field of poppies and spring flowers in watercolor style bright and illuminated from within”. I was then shown four renderings, one of which was the one above. I LOVE some of what is coming out of this, and I also am wildly aware of the different experience it is from actually creating art either digitally or in the physical world using physical pigments and brushes.
So I am approaching this with curiousity. It is intensely fast. One can re-iterate hundreds of options in a matter of an hour in a large gamut of styles. See below for wide variety of bee renderings I did using different prompts. As an artist seeking to generate money, I have been experimenting with different approaches and this is a phenomenal tool to quickly make images for garden flags “No Mow May. Pardon the weeds, we are feeding the bees.” This was fantastic way to try out different styles on etsy. Interestingly, the only ones that sell well, is the digital one I created myself using my computer in photoshop. 🙂 Midjourney does create a bit of soulless art. But that doesn’t mean to me it doesn’t have a place.
I am grateful to S. Kelley Harrell, at Soul Intents Arts, for a good conversation on this spurring this blog post.
If you are interested in using Midjourney yourself, you need to access it on Discord. Quick overview is here: https://docs.midjourney.com/docs/quick-start . You can do a limited number of images for free, otherwise it’s $20/month for the one with mininum options. Feel free to reach out if you have questions!
Iterations I quickly did to test popularity of style for my “No Mow May” garden flag. I did these all in Midjourney very quickly, and interestingly on Etsy the only ones I am selling are the ones I created digitally in photoshop. 🙂 I thought the two on far left would have been popular.

Over holiday 2015, I consciously committed to following my path and my passion in whatever form that might be. I began doing daily watercolor doodles, praying for my purpose and joy to emerge, as well as enrolling in an online year-long healing/painting class with...
Future Teacher Visioning
When interviewed for this program by Shiloh Sophia, she asked me to close my eyes and imagine in the future a class I would be teaching from Color of Woman. I closed my eyes, and I felt myself walk out of the back porch of my home, and it was beautiful out: flowers...
Soulful Affirmation Deck!
I did Color of Woman's Soulful Card Deck class in preparation to teach it. It was wonderful, and much more powerful than I anticipated! I regularly create art, as well as art driven by Spirit, but these cards definitely held more power. I can only image it was due to...

PTSD
More words need to be said about PTSD. I have heard people be a little poo poo on PTSD and be a little negative emotions as if they make a person weak or they are too sensitive. I think this is a terrible thing that is rampant in the culture in the United States. It...
Valentines Day Cards – FREE
I made some watercolor hearts into free downloads for Valentine's Day. It's a reminder our hearts are previous, our feelings so important. Hearts tell us when we are on the right path or not. And they can be captured if we are not paying attention. I honor your heart....

This is a more philosophical post but gets at something I try to do with jillyhop and my art -- create a break from the fear and darkness facebook and the media are trying to put into us.Why I make and share art: What if the most valuable asset from humanity is our...
